The image above is when I first landed in Belize and met the other 20 volunteers that I would be serving with for the next two years! I still remember the feeling of butterflies in my stomach!
The Tapir (aka "mountain cow") is a sacred animal in Belize. The Mayan people saw them as a symbol of strength and peace. Today, Belizeans protect them as an important and endangered species.
