I loved being able to share more about Galicia’s culture, food, and traditions, as these were things I knew very little about just five months ago. Now, this knowledge is a part of my life, and I will take the memories back to the United States with me.
As I find myself at a little past the halfway point of my time in Spain, I am both anxious and excited for what the future holds. My parents and younger brother are coming to visit me in March, for which I am immensely excited. It will be their first time outside of North America! I hope they also catch the travel bug, so to speak, to get out of their own comfort zones and see more of our beautiful planet. I am also looking forward to semana santa (Holy Week), the celebration of the Easter holiday which often includes spectacular and moving celebrations in Spain. At the same time, I feel that I need to do more to get involved in my community, improve my Spanish, and be the best teacher I can be. I remind myself as often as I can how lucky I am to be here, but just being here is not enough. I need to take full advantage of the opportunities before me.
Good luck to all of you, future travelers! Wherever life takes you, I hope you learn to enjoy the journey along the way. Adios! (Goodbye!)
