Hello friends! My name is Michael O'Connor. I am from Indianapolis, Indiana, and I am currently living in Santiago de Compostela in northwestern Spain. Over the next several weeks, I will be sharing photos, descriptions and stories with you all about my life in this corner of the world.
The region of Spain that I live in, similar to a "state" in the United States, is called Galicia, and it is very beautiful, though it does rain quite a bit! I am surrounded by people speaking not only Spanish but also Galego, a language spoken almost exclusively by the people within this region of Spain. It is similar to Spanish but also has its own identity, and it is something in which the people from Galicia take great pride. I love listening to them talk about their culture and learning about this world in which I am so lucky to live for one year. While here, I also work as an auxiliar de conversación, an assistant English teacher, in a primary school.
I hope by following my experiences you all will feel like you are a part of this journey with me. I can't wait to share my experiences with you and learn about yours as well!
