Monica's Journey to Mongolia

Current Location

Hi, I'm Monica, and I'm living in Khovd, Mongolia for one year through the U.S. Fulbright Student Program. I'm excited to take you along for the adventure as I explore Mongolian culture. Let's go!

It's winter break here in Mongolia! I traveled to the capital city of Ulaanbaatar (UB) to visit friends and see some more of the country. It's pretty cold, but good company is always worth a trip!

Traveling to a new place and leaving all that you know behind can be hard. However, new memories you gain from reaching out to others make it worthwhile. Let's talk about the Mongolian Lunar New Year!

Field Notes

Mongolia is known for its green steppes, where animals and people live off the land. Unfortunately, desertification is a big problem in Mongolia. Why is it happening, and what's being done?

Every year in the Western Mongolian province (state) Bayan-Ulgii, Kazakh Eagle Hunters host an Eagle Festival to prove their hunting skills. It's a great chance to see another part of Mongolia!
