My journey to become a veterinarian started when I was very young. Ever since I was a kid, I had a deep love for animals and wanted to help them! Over time, my passion for animals became a goal: to attend vet school and help sick animals. By becoming a veterinarian, I could gain the power to achieve my dreams.
In high school, I began to foster dogs and cats. This meant that I would keep them at my house to raise them until they were old enough or healthy enough to be adopted. This way, I could give them a comfortable place to stay so they didn’t have to live at the shelter.
Shortly after, I began volunteering at my local animal shelter where I got to experience what animal rescue was like. This showed me the importance of showing compassion to animals and treating them with love. I learned how even the smallest actions -- such as feeding them a meal, giving them a few extra pets or even cleaning out their kennel -- could make their day so much happier.
Once I got a bit older, I started working at my local vet clinic. There, I gained a lot of skills in a veterinary environment that were important for me to learn. I learned how to give vaccines, assist with a physical exam and communicate with a team and clients.
