Most mornings, I wake up at 7:00 a.m. and start getting ready for school. I live close enough to walk, so I leave my house around 7:40 a.m. to arrive before classes begin at 8:00 a.m. My school's name is G.S. Kabare and there's around 2,000 students!

I usually teach three to four classes each day, mostly in the morning. I work with two Rwandan English teachers, Isaie and Julienne. We plan lessons together and co-teach our Senior 1 (S1) and Senior 2 (S2) classes, which are similar to middle school grades.

From 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., I’m at school. When I’m not teaching, I'm usually reading on my Kindle, planning lessons, or talking with other teachers in the staff room. There are 43 teachers at my school, so there's always a fun conversation to join!

I eat lunch at school most days. The menu is very consistent. It is always either rice and beans or cawunga (a thick corn paste flour; it's like a thick mashed potato texture) and beans. I really like eating at school because I don’t have running water at home, which makes washing dishes more difficult. School lunch costs 4,000 Rwandan francs per month, which is about $3.50 USD.
