My Stay At The Kyoto Brighton Hotel

What kind of food did the hotel offer?

As part of my stay, I received a breakfast voucher with two options: a Western-style breakfast or a traditional Japanese breakfast. Since I was in Japan, I decided to go with the traditional Japanese breakfast—it was my first time having one!

The meal included rice, salmon, tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), miso soup, fruit, dried seaweed and a few other small dishes. I enjoyed almost everything, except for two items: one in a blue dish and another in a white dish positioned north of the rice. I’m not sure what they were, but they weren’t really my cup of tea.

One of the highlights of the dining experience was the customer service. The waitresses wore beautiful kimonos, which added to the authentic atmosphere. They were also incredibly kind and welcoming—they didn't treat me as if I was (and I know some Japanese people dislike this word)... gaijin. In other words, they didn't treat me like an outsider. I appreciated that because that meant I felt welcomed, and it made it easier for me to truly immerse myself in this aspect of Japanese culture.

Was the hotel in a convenient location?

Yes. I specifically chose this hotel because it was only a 15-minute walk from my campus. I knew I had to wake up early for orientation the next day, so staying close by made things much easier.

Did the hotel have any modern or traditional Japanese elements?
