Subway Surfers

Introduction:

Rome has excellent city public transportation, including buses and an underground subway/metro system. It is also a very walkable city, meaning you can travel easily on foot. In this sense, there is no real need for a car in Rome!

How do people get around?:

Most people get around by walking through their neighborhood to all essential places, such as the grocery store and pharmacy. To get to work, people take the bus or metro (subway). To get to school, I walked! To venture out and see new sites, I usually took the bus and sometimes the metro.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I love using Rome's public transportation because it is inexpensive and eco-friendly. Walking to school and the store on a daily basis felt very relaxing. I felt my walks cleared my head. The metro was fun because all my friends could come along, not just the few that fit in a car!

Is this way of getting around connected to the culture and environment, How?:

The metro system in Rome is interesting because ancient ruins have been discovered multiple times as the system has been built and renovated! Rome's modern city is built on top of ancient Rome. Because they have to dig tunnels for the subway, the builders were actually in a sense excavating the old city!
