Nature is Our Lifeline

This provides them with a healthy diet, allowing them to build muscle for meat production or milk for dairy consumption. The sprawling meadows and mountains offer plenty of space for these large creatures to get their daily nutrients. The mountains also house streams and water sources for the cows.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

Since the Asturian cow is so important to the identity and economy of the region, they are definitely here to stay. Some concerns about this animal relate to who gets to take care of them and how they are provided for. Some rural parts of Asturias are being replaced with bigger industrial farms, which removes tradition from the way these animals are cared for. Farmers also must navigate how climate change can affect the landscape and the cows' sources of food. Local governments and powers, however, promote regional farming to keep local cow farming as part of daily life here in Asturias.
