Hi, my name is Nicholas. I was born in New York, raised in Montego Bay, Jamaica and am now studying abroad in Sydney, Australia. I am 21 years old and a proud Gemini. Growing up in Jamaica, I had an inherent fondness for seeing the beautiful ocean. Some of my cherished memories are from visits to beaches and rivers with my family. I moved back and forth several times between Jamaica and Florida, so when it came time for me to choose a university, I chose one within the state of Florida. I attend the University of South Florida (Go Bulls!), where I am a senior majoring in geology.
My goal is to become an environmental research geologist so I can work with the United Nations and conduct research in the developing world about water access. I aim to work actively with marginalized groups (particularly women and children) because they are the ones significantly impacted by poor water access.
Becoming a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholar gave me the opportunity to move closer toward my goal by studying abroad. I am not only taking classes here in Australia, but I am involved in ground water research and volunteering with the Aboriginal community. I am excited for you to join me as I experience new cultures and tackle an issue as important as water access!
