Traveler Bio

Hi there! My name is Nick, and I am a Peace Corps Volunteer living in Eswatini, a country in southern Africa. I teach health classes at a local high school, where I help students learn how to stay healthy, build friendships, succeed in school, and prepare for future jobs.

I have always enjoyed working with kids and finding ways to make learning fun. In college, I studied psychology and later began a master’s degree in social work. Through my studies, I joined the Peace Corps, a U.S. government program that sends volunteers abroad to support communities based on their local needs. In Eswatini, many families have limited access to resources, which can make staying healthy more challenging, so my role as a health teacher is especially important. I do this work because I care about helping young people feel happy and confident, and seeing my students smile makes me proud.

Life in Eswatini is very different from life in the United States. I live in a rural area with chickens, goats, cows, and pigs that roam freely during the day. I am far from paved roads and often go without electricity, which means cooking over a fire and enjoying quiet evenings under a sky full of stars. The people here are very welcoming, and greeting one another is an important part of daily life.

Schools here have fewer resources than many U.S. schools. I teach using chalkboards, and simple supplies like pens can be hard to find. Even so, students are eager to learn.

My goal is to listen, learn, and share ideas, building connections that help both my community here in Eswatini and the communities I return to in the future.

Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
