The ways in which people navigate their environment says a lot about the interactions they have with it and one another. Here, we will talk more about two of the most popular modes of transportation: walking and the bus, or camión in Mexican Spanish.
Querétaro is a very old city with El Centro, or the historic city center, dating back to 1531. Since this was a time long before cars, much of the city is best experienced by walking. Cars are used, but it is considered a big privilege to have one. Otherwise, most people take the city bus routes if they have to get from one side of the city to the other.
I feel very comfortable walking around the city. It is a very safe town and was designed to be walkable. I feel nice and healthy when I walk 30 minutes to school or 20 minutes to work. The bus is sometimes uncomfortable because it can get packed and difficult to get off when it is your stop, but at 11 pesos, which is about 50 cents, per ride, it is an unbeatably cheap mode of transportation when walking would take too long.
