Our News

We have a delicious spread of rice, beans, potatoes, chorizo (sausage) sauce and salad. It's a great time to chat with teachers in other disciplines. On Friday, we had a lively debate about which cuisine is the best: Rwandan, Tanzanian or Kenyan.

As a special treat, one of my favorite Rwandan dishes is zingaro--grilled goat intestine. First, they boil it, then chop it into little pieces and grill it with some delicious spices.

For dinner, I don't always love to cook, so I usually order out. Rwanda has its own version of DoorDash called VubaVuba (which means "quickly" in Kinyarwanda), and there are many different types of cuisines you can get. Takeout is definitely cheaper here than in the U.S.

What music did I listen to this week?:

Most places play Afrobeats (pop music) from around the continent. This weekend, my friends and I went to a concert where we got to hear some cool local artists. The first one was Canadian-Rwandan, and he rapped mostly in English. At special events I’ve attended, like weddings, there is a traditional music and dance called Intore

What activity was the most fun this week?:

Every Tuesday, my friends and I go to a local Spanish restaurant for trivia night. Each night is hosted my the previous week's winners, who come up with all the questions. We won once back in November, and it was a lot of work to host, so now we just like coming in second or third.

What did I read this week?:

Right now, I'm reading Walking with Gorillas by Dr. Gladys Kalema-Zikusoka.
