Traveler Bio

My name is Nisreen Kalai. I am 19 years old and from Jacksonville, Florida, but grew up all over the world. I’ve lived in many countries like Lebanon, Kenya, Jordan, and Haiti! My family is originally North African. I am half Tunisian and half Moroccan, but we immigrated to Florida in 2014. In Florida, I love going to the beach, visiting state parks, and going on runs around my neighborhood. I also enjoy birdwatching!

I go to college in Sarasota, Florida, and I study international studies with a minor in French at New College of Florida. My particular interest is the Middle East. I love learning about the intersection of religion and LGBTQ+ topics. In the future I want to work for non-profits and help queer people around the world.

Being half Moroccan, I chose to study in Morocco so I can learn about my culture and heritage. I am doing a semester in the capital of Morocco: Rabat. Will will be studying all about the challenges and complexities of human rights, social justice, and cultural transformations in Morocco. My program also includes an Arabic class, so I can’t wait to share some Arabic phrases with you all.

I am staying with a family in the city center of Rabat and I'm thrilled to learn all about the intricacies of Moroccan culture and be in a fast-paced environment. I'm so excited to share my journey with you all!
