My Autobiography: Who am I?

Journal Entry:

Hola, me llamo Genevieve! (Hello my name is Genevieve)

I am from New Mexico, which is a state in the southwestern part of the United States. It shares a border with Mexico. Mexico is a Spanish-speaking country, and this influenced a lot of how I grew up.

Santa Fe, which is the name of the city where I was born, has a lot of influence from Native American groups and Hispanic culture. I never dreamed about visiting Europe, but I did dream of hiking the Andes, which are amazing mountains spanning the continent of South America.

I have loved traveling from the day I learned that it was possible. The thought of experiencing different cultures and environments was my dream. I often combed through magazines of study abroad trips that I could never pay for! However, I wanted to see the pictures. I wanted to dream about the day I would be able to spend time in a different country.

Part of my family lives in Mexico, so I always felt left out in conversations. I felt as if I was not receiving the whole experience of the culture because I was lacking language skills. I did not fall in love with the Spanish language, however, until I was in my first year of college.

I entered into a double-degree program at Northern Arizona University. It is located in Flagstaff, Arizona.
