I’m now in my sixth month of living in Germany and can hardly believe it. It doesn’t feel like six months have passed since I left the United States. I can tell what a difference these past six months have made though!
My German language skills have really improved. While I still can’t understand everything, I can understand more of what I hear. I can have short conversations in German. I can also ask for information. One of my goals in moving to Germany was to improve my language abilities and I’m happy to say that I have made good progress!
I have learned a lot about different cultures during my travels, too. It has been fun to connect with people. I have gotten to experience a bit of German culture through food, transportation, language, shopping and conversation.
This trip has taught also me a lot about myself. I had to find my way around new cities. I had to communicate with people when I didn’t speak their language. I had to make new friends. This has been the first time I’ve ever lived alone and the first time I’ve ever been a teacher in a classroom! Being able to succeed at all these things has made me a better person.
