Transportation in South Korea

Introduction:

Transportation in South Korea is similar to that of a large city in the U.S. Half of the population here lives in big cities that are similar in size to Chicago. Since so many people live in big cities, there needs to be a lot of transportation options and transportation needs to be efficient. In South Korean cities, many people use buses and trains when they go to work. However, if a person in South Korea wants to exercise and save some money, they'll ride their bike. Riding a bike to work is becoming more popular in South Korea, especially on Jeju Island.

How do people get around?:

The most popular way to get around is by bus or train. South Korea's transportation system is wonderful because it is cheap and you can go anywhere. In the U.S., a bus or train can only get you to major cities. In South Korea though, a bus or train can take you to any city. Within the cities, biking is very popular. This is partially because the sidewalks are very large, so there is always plenty of room to ride your bike. In each of my classes, around one third of my students ride their bikes to school every day.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

I loved it! I never rode my bike when I was in America, and so I was nervous at first.
