South Korean Food

Introduction:

Here are a few main points about eating in South Korea: I eat a lot of rice, vegetables and seafood here. Almost every meal that I eat has a bowl of rice and soup, which usually has vegetables in it. Since I am on an island, seafood is the most popular meat. If I eat meat that isn't seafood, it is usually pork. South Korea is famous for fermenting vegetables, so I eat a lot of fermented vegetables like kimchi! In terms of cooking, a major difference between South Korea and the U.S. is that a family owning an oven is rare, as Western-style ovens aren't that common in many Asian countries.

What food did I try?:

I have tried many different kinds of seafood! Many of the foods do not have a name in English. Most of what I eat consists different shellfish. This shellfish kind of feels like rubber and is chewy, but tastes really good! It is salty and very fishy. I have also tried food from other countries while in South Korea. On my island, I have been to restaurants that serve food from Mexico, India, Yemen, Syria and Spain.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

I felt very good. Sometimes I didn't like the taste of the seafood, but most of the time I did and it was fun to try new things. My host family is also really happy when I try new things, because it shows that I am open to their culture.
