Food in Chile

Introduction:

First, Chileans eat a lot of bread! I learned this right away when I started eating the food here in Chile. The diet consists of a lot of bread, vegetables and meat. Chileans eat some of the same types foods that we do in America, too!

At the same time, though I've learned that Chileans eat many different dishes that are popular here which I hadn't known about until I arrived in Chile. One fun fact bout food in Chile is that you can really buy it anywhere! People are always selling food on the streets and at markets. For meals in Chile, we eat a light desayuno (breakfast), a big almuerzo (lunch) and then once, which is a small dinner of bread, jam and tea.

What food did I try?:

I have tried many different foods since I have been here in Chile. Something I eat a lot of are tortas, which are sandwiches with bread and then meat or vegetables on the inside. Usually, I'll have this for lunch with rice and salad.  I also eat a lot of hallula, which is a special bread that is native to Chile.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

The first time I tried a torta it was delicious! I really liked it, and over the past weeks I have been able to try several different types.

Hallula has really thick crust and is usually heated up for once, the small dinner that Chileans eat.
