In order to find out how the people in Santa Rosa celebrate 25 de Mayo, I asked my friends in a group chat! Check out their responses in the photos provided!
25 de Mayo - May 25th!
NOTE: I have included a short video clip about May 25th here in Argentina in my next article - Album titled "La Moda - Fashion" - make sure to look for it after reading this Field Note.
25 de Mayo is one of the most important holidays in Argentina. It is celebrated as Argentina’s Independence Day but is actually celebrating a series of events that lead up to the May Revolution and ultimately, Argentina’s independence from Spain.
If the holiday lands on a weekday, there will be no school with stores and banks closed, etc. However, this year it falls on a Saturday. I look forward to spending this holiday here in a couple of weeks!
The day is connected to its community environment and is celebrated surrounded by family. There are gatherings in plazas and city centers, maybe traditional dances, parades, etc. Normally, families spend time with each other on May 25th because it’s one of the most important holidays.
