Fiestas de San Isidro

Introduction:

The festivities of San Isidro is an annual tradition lasting about a week in May. San Isidro showcases some of the most authentic customs in Madrid: bullfighting, concerts, street parades and food!

What tradition did I learn about?:

An important tradition held in Madrid is the celebration of San Isidro, which lasts from May 10 to May 15. These five days are filled with activities for people of all ages and from all over the world. One of the most popular activities is live music. Several artists performed at 19 different stages across Madrid. They played different types of music, such as pop, reggaeton, electronic and folklore. Though festivities occurred all throughout Madrid, the main events happened at San Isidro Park. Here, the park is filled with music, flowers, food, rides and festivals. The stages host dances, concerts and children's shows. Kids can see magic shows, clowns, mimes and music groups. In the parades, people dress up in chulapo and goyesco costumes and are accompanied by chotis (the traditional music of Madrid). The most traditional food to get during San Isidro is Rosquillas, which is a donut covered in aniseed.
