A Walk Through the Valley of Flowers

The Valley of Flowers National Park is a high elevation valley in the foothills of the Himalayas known as a hotspot for diversity of flowering plants!  Come explore it with me!

The Valley of Flowers is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand, only about 30 miles from the Nepal border
It falls in the foothills of the Himalayan Mountain Range at 11,500 feet above sea level
The trail to the valley begins by crossing the Pushpavati River, the river that drains the Valley of Flowers
When you enter the valley, it is easy to see how it earned its name
The Valley of Flowers is known as a center of biodiversity, meaning many different types of plants and flowers grow here!
Some species, like this Himalayan blue poppy, are found only in a few places in the world, while other species grow only in the Valley of Flowers
For most of the year, the valley is covered in snow, so plants such as this geranium have only a few months to grow, flower and spread seeds for next year's bloom
Not all plants flower at the same time, or else they would all be competing for the attention of pollinators like this hardworking bee!
