THIS THUS (;) -- Maya and Roxanna, a London Musical Duo

Introduction:

Maya Leigh-Rosenwasser and Roxanna Albayati are masters students with me at Trinity Laban Conservatoire. Maya plays the piano and Roxanna plays the cello. Together, they created the musical duo called THIS THUS (;), where they perform improvised and experimental music around London. I met them in an improvisation class, and they are two of the kindest people that I've met in London. Both of them are from the United Kingdom and wanted to share their lives with you.

Where do you live? What is your house like?:

Maya: I live in North London in a very big house with my mum and dad. My brothers and sisters now live in Scotland. It’s cozy, and I live at the end of a quiet road.

Roxanna: I live in Southeast London in a two-bedroom flat with my boyfriend. My sister used to live there, but she moved out. I live in a modern area, and my flat is very clean because my boyfriend likes to clean all the time. 

What is your family like?:

Maya: I have a big, loud Jewish family. My immediate family is weird, and I love them very much. 

Roxanna: I also have a big, loud family, as Middle Eastern families can be, without much sense of personal space.
