Hi, everyone! My name is Brian Garcia. I am a political science student at the University of Nevada Las Vegas. I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, so I'm a boy of the desert. Growing up in Las Vegas, I lived in a bubble of international cultures, languages, and foods. Even though the rapidly-growing city of Las Vegas is in the middle of the desert, it boasts a large amount of cultural diversity. As the son of Mexican immigrants, I grew up learning the importance of family, cultural immersion, community and personal awareness. I hope to be a diplomat in the U.S. Foreign Service or to work in the field of international human rights in the future. I love to travel, take photos, meet new people, cook, learn different languages, read and explore the world however I can. I can speak Mandarin Chinese, English (obviously), and Spanish, but I am currently preparing myself to learn Arabic, Twi, and French, too!
I lived in Chengdu, China during the Fall 2019 semester, from August 2019 up until the beginning of February 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic began. I chose to study abroad in China not only because it helps show what the future of technology, economics, and society will be like, but also because of its culture, people, food and language.
