An eighth grader in Jodhpur, India

Introduction:

Hi! My name is Shaurya Lodha. I am 13 years old. I am in the eighth grade at Lucky International School. I was born in Anaheim, California. While my family was in the United States we lived in Boston and Los Angeles. We returned to India on my fourth birthday, but I still remember going to Chuck-e-Cheese while I lived in the U.S.

Now I live in Jodhpur, India in an extended family with my grandparents, my parents, my father's older brother, his wife and their two daughters. My cousins are eleven and fourteen years old. I think of them as my sisters and call them that.

We speak English and Hindi at home. Sometimes, my grandparents speak in Marwari, which is one of the native languages of Rajasthan. I understand a little Marwari but cannot speak it.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

Before leaving for school I drink a glass of milk. Breakfast is served at school and is generally a flattened rice dish called poha. The lunch that is served in school includes one vegetable, daal (lentills), rice, chappatti (tortilla) and mithai (desert). For dinner, when we are not eating Indian food, we eat pizza, pasta, veggie burgers or quesadillas.

What is your house like?:

Our home, which we have named Chanakya, has five bedrooms and five bathrooms. It is L-shaped and two-stories high.
