What is daily life like in Ecuador?
While I am not Ecuadorian myself and can only answer based on my own experiences and conversations with friends here, I will do my best to tell you more about Ecuadorian daily life and what people do for fun in both the cities and rural areas in this exciting country!
Ecuador's largest city is Guayaquil, located near the Pacific coast and boasting nearly 2.6 million inhabitants. Guayaquil is one of the most important economic centers in the country and is known for its maritime port which exports lots of bananas, coffee and cacao. Ecuador's second largest city, Quito, is also the nation's mountainous capital and is home to around 2.2 million people. Quito is the nation's political and cultural hub, with plenty of museums and what UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) considers Latin America's "best preserved, least-altered" historic center with lots of colonial architecture and famous churches.
Riobamba, where I am living, is a smaller, more residential city located in the heart of the country. This area is known for its agriculture and production of artisan goods.
