Postres en Iza (Desserts in Iza)

Introduction:

Back home in Humble, a typical Sunday for me would be spent with my parents “goofing off,” as my dad likes to say. I always look forward to having a homecooked breakfast with my parents on Sunday mornings before enjoying the afternoon trip to go shopping (window or sometimes, actual) with my parents at Target or At Home. An interesting thing to note is that, “window shopping” is considered a cultural activity in the United States, whereas my German cousins have mentioned to me that such a thing is not common in Germany.

In Sogamoso, a common way for families to spend time together on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon is to pueblar. Pueblo is Spanish for "town", and in Colombian Spanish, to pueblar translates to, "visit small towns". This activity is very common during Christmas time when many families will take busses in order to pueblar and enjoy light displays.

Another common weekend activity for families in Sogamoso is to take a daytrip to Iza.  Approximately 25 minutes by bus from Sogamoso, Iza is a town best known for its displays of handcrafted desserts that can be viewed (and enjoyed!) on the weekends. For this reason, Colombians refer to Iza as the "Sweet Tooth of Colombia."

This past October, I took my first visit to Iza with my neighbor, Andres, and Butler, my dog.
