Life in Taiwan is Sweet!

Introduction:

Hi, explorers! Have you ever been to a night market? Here in Taiwan, they are very popular. On Friday and Saturday nights, many people like to visit the night market to shop, play fun carnival games, and of course, eat yummy food! There are lots of different Taiwanese street foods like scallion pancakes, stinky tofu, pepper buns, and fried chicken, but each one has something different. When my friends and I travel to a new place, we love to visit the night market there to see what kind of local specialties they have!

What food did I try?:

Although the night market has lots of really yummy foods to try, today I tried 地瓜球 (dì guā qiú), or fried sweet potato balls!

How did I feel when I tried it?:

While I was waiting in line, I could smell the sweet potato balls cooking. It was fun to watch them cook and see how they are prepared. Because they were made fresh, they were warm and crispy when I bit into them, but the inside was perfectly chewy. I was surprised because they are almost completely hollow in the middle, which made them very light and airy. I chose to add powdered sugar, so they tasted sweet like a powdered donut. I really liked them and I'm excited to try new flavors next time I go to the night market!

How is the food prepared?:

First, they cook the sweet potatoes so that they are nice and soft.
