Last week, I told you all about my trip to Italy. Now that we're explorers of two countries, let's start to compare the two by talking about Italian food! I was only in Italy for a week, but it struck me from the first meal how different Italian food is from British food. Italians mainly eat pasta, cheese, and bread, which are my three favorite foods, so every meal I ate there was amazing! They also use a lot of butter, seasoning and sauces on their food, which is very different from meals in the U.K. British foods are mainly made up of bland ingredients like beans, fish and potatoes, and they normally don’t add any seasoning (even salt!). I’m making it pretty obvious which country’s food is my favorite, but let me describe all my observations to you, and then you explorers can decide for yourselves!
I spent my week in Italy eating lots of foods for which the country is famous: bread, pizza and pasta! Italians serve bread with most meals (which explains why you get breadsticks at Olive Garden!), and they have their own kind of flatbread, called focaccia. I thought this was delicious, and it's so cheap that on my day in Cinque Terre, all I ate for all three meals was foccaccia! Another cool fact about Italy is that meals are designed with multiple courses.
