Kangaroo Country

Introduction:

Australia is home to many unusual animals, like the kangaroo! A kangaroo is a marsupial, which is an animal that has a pouch for its young. They are the most popular animal of Australia, as many people associate them with this country. I am so excited to share my knowledge with you on kangaroos, as I took a class here, dedicated to them!

What does this creature or plant look like?:

This creature has large back legs and short front legs. This allows them to hop around as their main mode of transport. Their tail is also very long and strong, allowing them to use it as a fifth leg. They have a pouch in front of their stomachs to carry their young, which are called “joeys.” Kangaroos are very fast and can quickly escape predators. They are often very muscular and strong.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

When I saw a kangaroo for the first time in Australia, it was at the zoo for class. There were so many of them! It was so cool to watch them hop around and interact with each other. The first time I saw a kangaroo in the wild, I was so excited! They were in a group, called a “mob,” within vineyards located just outside Sydney. They were laying around the grass and hopping together, it was so entertaining. I wanted to watch them for hours! Recently, I attended the Australia Zoo, the Steve Irwin zoo,  and I got to hand-feed them.
