Hello! As the Willie Nelson song goes, “On the road again…” I’m writing to you from a train going from Barcelona to Alicante in Spain. Let me share how I got here!
This past week, I traveled all the way from Dubrovnik to Chicago for a conference. I first flew to Istanbul, Turkey, which is to the east of Croatia (the opposite direction of New York). I flew there first because that was the cheapest plane ticket offered. I then flew directly to New York, which took nearly 10 hours! Have you ever traveled for that long before? I was in Brooklyn for two days to see my friends and family before flying two and a half hours to Chicago.
A conference is a big meeting of typically over one hundred people and usually lasts one to four days. The focus is usually educational, where people can learn more about the kind of work they do or about a community they are a part of. In this case, it was a conference for Croatian American Professionals. I was honored that a documentary film I made was going to be seen for the first time at the conference! The film is about a trip I took back in June with 40 other young people of Croatian origin from around the world.
