One of my best and longest-lasting friends in Morocco has been Walid. Since we often work in the same office and he regularly comes over to the house where I live, I am blessed with the opportunity to hang out with him almost every day. Usually, we hangout when we return home after finishing our work for the day.
For this article, I had the opportunity to interview Walid.
My full name is Ahmed Walid El Ouarti.
I live in Hay Salam in Sale, which is right across the river from Rabat. In Morocco, my house is called a Villa, but most Americans would probably just consider it a normal house with a yard. On the ground floor, we have a garage, my bedroom, and the kitchen with a pantry. On the first floor, there is a massive double Moroccan salon, as well as one bedroom and one small salon. On the second floor, there is another kitchen, a bedroom, and two other big salons with balconies and one bedroom. Finally, on the roof we have some storage space.
I live with my mother, sister, and aunt. My mother works in the Ministry of Tourism. My sister is now studying in a doctoral law program after recently getting her masters degree. My aunt, who retired from a career in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, now spends her time painting.
