Meet My Friend Neil!

Introduction:

Kids growing up in the rural areas ("the provinces") of the Philippines have lives similar to those people who are living in the cities as well as children in the U.S., with just some slightly different scenery! Specifically: all kids in the Philippines have to go to school, participate in after-school activities and help out around the house. Meet my host brother Neil to learn more about his life living in the province of Bataan.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

Rice! I eat rice with every meal. For breakfast, I like to eat fish or hot dogs with my rice. For lunch, it depends on what my nanay (mother) cooks. For dinner, my older brothers and sister usually help my nanay cook, and usually we'll have fish, but sometimes we'll have squid or even mussels.

What is your house like?:

My house has a big kitchen, and it's never quiet. That's because I have 2 older brothers and 1 older sister, and we have chickens, a rooster and a dog that all live in our yard. My family just started a sari sari store on our front porch, a small convenience store that sells eggs, soy sauce, cooking seasonings, garlic, onions and snacks.

What chores do you have at home?:

None! But that's just because I'm the youngest, and usually my nanay doesn't make me do any jobs at home.
