Although I was thrilled as I began this journey with your classroom back in August at the prospect of sharing my life here in Taiwan with students from North Carolina, the place where I call home and where I lived for the first 23 years of my life, I was not entirely sure what to expect from the RTW experience. Growing up in Asheville, I never could have dreamed that I would one day receive a Fulbright grant to live and teach in Taiwan. Yet, here I am! I hope that our journey together has not only served for you as a source of cultural and geographical education about a place that is quite far from where you live, but that it has also inspired at least a few of you to re-evaluate your own potential and realize you, too, can see and explore the world. It is quite big out here and more beautiful than you could ever imagine!
I am only beginning my fifth month in Taiwan now, but I have already had so many opportunities for change, growth and reflection in my time so far. I will be in Taiwan until July, and I am so excited for the rest of my time, here. I’m even considering applying to stay for another year!
