This week I tried a traditional Bahraini breakfast. The breakfast consisted of several small dishes that I shared with a group of people. Depending on where you eat, the dishes included in a Bahraini breakfast may vary. I will tell you about the restaurant I ate at this week and a little about the dishes that I tried.
This week, I ate at a small restaurant. They gave us a copy of the menu, and we decided what dishes to try. We ordered eight dishes for three people, so we had a lot of food! The restaurant also gave us bread and tea for free. Some of my favorite dishes were cheese sambusas (small crispy pastries filled with cheese), balaleet (thin noodles covered in a sweet sauce and topped with an egg) and mehyawa (a paste made out of dried fish and vinegar that I ate on top of bread). I ate my food too fast to take photos, but you can search these online to see what they look like!
I was unsure at first if I would like the food, especially balaleet and mehyawa, since they are very different from things that I am used to. However, I liked it all, and I am glad I tried something new. I also liked that I could share the food with my friends.
