Have you ever wondered what jobs exist deep below the ocean’s surface? Or how people end up working with underwater robots, exploring shipwrecks, or managing missions that take place thousands of miles offshore?
We spoke to four people at Ocean Infinity--Marian, Steven, Heath and Nathan--who each play a different role in exploring and understanding the oceans. Their paths are all different, but they share one thing: curiosity. Let’s meet them.
Marian – The Underwater Robotics Problem‑Solver
Marian leads a team that helps keep Ocean Infinity’s underwater robots (called ROVs and AUVs) running smoothly. Whenever something goes wrong during a mission, operators call her team for help. She also designs training so operators can learn how to use the technology safely and confidently. Marian loved math, physics and engineering from a young age. She joined robotics clubs at school and university, which eventually led her to discover underwater robots–something she didn’t even know existed before. She's proud of going offshore for the first time and being one of the only women on the vessel.
