The Peace Corps Volunteer Experience

Photos

Language class sizes are kept small in Peace Corps to ensure optimal learning. Jacob and I met with our teacher Lamine 5-6 days a week for multiple sessions over the course of three months. He's amazing!
My supervisor, Mariam, is Pula Futa and our post's Sage Femme (women’s doctor) is Serer and my work counterpart our pharmacist, is Fulakunda! They speak to each other in Wolof
My fellow Kolda regional volunteers and I enjoy meeting up in the regional capital city every once in awhile. We always have a good time catching up and eating some good food
As we are all living on volunteer budgets (which is not much!) our fun is often free and consists of catching up and playing games
Whenever possible, it's nice to try to combine long car-trips with other volunteers as the journey can be uncertain due to bad roads and cars breaking down all the time
My counterpart, Alpha, came to the counterpart workshop with me. Alpha is the pharmacist in my village.
I came to Senegal with many other volunteers. We spent 3 months training in the local language and for our jobs. They are working in villages all across Senegal!
In the healthcare workplace, the highest rank a woman will have is being the Sage Femme. Aminata is an incredible example of how women here can become powerhouses in the workplace.
