My name is Nyima D. Lama. I am 20 years old. I was born in Kathmandu, Nepal and went to school in India until I moved to the United States in 2011. I live in Greensboro, North Carolina. I am currently pursuing my Bachelor’s degree in political science and international studies, along with a minor in Japanese studies at Guilford College. I hope that my education can help me pursue my goal of working as a diplomat for the United States government.
Starting mid-January, I will be studying abroad in Japan at Kansai Gaidai University. I will take some political science and Japanese language classes at the college. I will also be volunteering for the local community and reconnecting with some of my Japanese friends. I applied for and received the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship, which has helped me make this study abroad opportunity possible. Overall, I will put my best effort into immersing myself in Japanese society and culture, and together we will have an exciting adventure.
I love to dance, volunteer, learn languages, meet new people, and explore places I’ve never been to before. I hope to bring all these things to this journey with you. You only live once, so I plan on making the most out of my experience abroad. I can’t wait to see where this will take us!
