Todo Sobre Asado (All About Barbecue)

Introduction:

Hola, a todos! (Hello, everyone!) This week’s journal is all about the food culture in Argentina. Argentines are known for enjoying maté (a highly-caffeinated yerba tea), dulce de leche, and asado, amongst other tasty items. This week, we'll explore a couple of Argentine food staples.

What food did I try?:

I have tried Argentine asado, and I'll tell you a bit more about asado later on in this article. Another cultural staple in Argentina is dulce de leche (caramelized milk)  which is used as a base for many desserts. There are crepes with dulce de leche, flan with dulce de leche, and most notably alfajores (sandwich cookies) with dulce de leche.  The large ethnic background of Italian and Spanish is also evident in the food here, as many locals enjoy pizza, pasta, ice cream and a dish of Spanish origin called tortilla de papas.  Other culture staples I have tried include empanadas and milanesa (breaded meat cutlet).
