Long-tailed macaques use tools such as rocks to break crab shells. They can also swim, usually entering the water to escape predators.
Long-tailed macaques are an endangered species, and sadly, its population has dropped 50-70% over the past three generations! Their main threat is humans, since humans cause habitat loss (deforestation), humans hunt these monkeys for food and sport, and most significantly, humans capture long-tailed macaques for science research. Fortunately, several programs and sanctuaries are also working and fighting to protect these primates.
