When the herbivore munches on the plant, the plant releases a particular odor that attracts the parasitoids to the plant so that the parasitoids can lay their eggs inside the herbivore. Interestingly, it seems that the hyperparasitoids have also evolved to use the odor released by the plant to track down the infested herbivores so that the hyperparasitoids can give the parasitoids a taste of their own medicine.
