They also serve it with a hard-boiled egg.
This week I listed to cumbia and huayno. There was lots of dancing in my town and these genres are by far the favorites of people in my region. We even had a live band play at all the events this weekend!
My most fun activity this week was watching a parade and a dance competition. We had a festival for San Isidro (which is one of the Catholic saints they celebrate here). This saint is associated with farming and harvesting food. There was dancing in the plaza (town square) and I helped decorate the door of one of my host family members with traditional food and plants of the region. It was fun to be part of this special tradition!
This week I picked up a book about Peruvian culture and history from my school's library! The word for library in Spanish is biblioteca. This book is all in Spanish which is perfect because it will help me practice my Spanish while I learn more about the new culture I am living in.
This week at the town fair, or festival, I played foosball with a group of my students. Foosball is the game where you play soccer on a table with little players that are attached to sticks with handles. I told them I wasn’t very good, but to my surprise my team won four games in a row. It was fun because we normally don’t have games like that in our town.
