People in Ireland mostly speak English, but some also speak Gaelic, which is an old Irish language. Street signs are written in both! People also use fun words: for example, fries are called “chips,” chips are called “crisps,” elevators are “lifts” and apartments are “flats.”
In Ireland, people use euros (€). So instead of saying “five dollars,” I’d say “five euros.”
A bottle of water usually costs about 1 or 2 euros.
I had Irish Stew! It’s a warm soup with beef, carrots, and potatoes. It came with mashed potatoes that were so soft they melted in my mouth. I even made a little hole in the potatoes and poured some stew inside, kind of like making a gravy volcano on Thanksgiving! Have you ever done that?
For dessert, I tried an Irish candy bar that tasted like a mix between a Twix and a Rice Krispies Treat. They don't have these in Barrington!
I also had very yummy pastries for breakfast in Rome, Italy. They melted in my mouth with sweet pistachio filling. I keep dreaming of them...
