Learning to read the Cyrillic alpabet was one of the hardest parts of learning Macedonian for me when I first started.
North Macedonia uses the Macedonian denar as its money. Denar bills come in 10, 50, 100, 200, 500, 1,000, and 2,000 denars. Coins come in 1, 2, 5, 10 and 50 denars.
One Denar is equal to 100 deni. Deni are similar to cents in the United States. New deni coins are no longer made, but 50-deni coins were made in the past. Sometime you still see them when you get change while shopping.
The value of the denar changes over time. As a rough example, one denar is worth about 2 U.S. cents, and one U.S. dollar is worth about 55 denars.
An average size bottle of water here costs about 40 denars, which is about $0.73.
