A Sunday roast is something that is typically only made on Sundays in restaurants or at home. It includes a protein (roast beef is traditional, but you can also find lamb, pork, or chicken), potatoes, roasted parsnips, carrots, and greens, as well as a gravy sauce made from the pan's leftover juices. It was very tasty! Afterwards, I had sticky toffee pudding for dessert, also a first! It is a moist date sponge cake with a butterscotch/toffee sauce drizzled on top, usually paired with vanilla ice cream. Yummy!

What music did I listen to this week?:

I had a neat opportunity to listen to different types of music this week! I went to Edinburgh for the first time for a concert at Usher Hall with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra to listen to Brahms' Violin Concerto, and then later in the week I went to Caird Hall in Dundee to listen to Shoshtakovish's Symphony No. 7 in C Major. I try to go to concerts often, as students in Scotland pay £6 for most live performances. I also had a chance to listen to Scottish traditional music through an on-campus musical group's performance of ancient Gaelic songs, traditional instruments, and festive dance tunes still used in celebrations today. The instruments used are generally violins, some sort of flute or recorder, and guitars.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

We just celebrated Halloween, and it was nice to see everyone get so excited for the holidays! The practice of guising, or dressing as something other than oneself, has existed in Scotland for hundreds of years, as early as the 16th century or perhaps even earlier in pagan traditions. This is where we get the word disguise from.
