In India, most people speak Hindi. However, every state in India has a different dialect of the Hindi language. Since Ahmedabad is in the state of Gujarat, they speak Gujarati here. In fact, it is quite different from Hindi. My friend who speaks Hindi can barely understand it!
The Indian currency is the rupee. Rupees come in coins and colorful bills. Very few places here accept credit cards, so I have to make sure I always have cash on me! Also, the exchange rate is very good for American dollars. 70 rupees is equal to one dollar!
A bottle of water costs 10 rupees.
The best meal I have had this week was at the hotel where I have been staying at for the last three days. It was a variety of curries, rice, fresh vegetables and roti. Roti is a flat bread that is usually cooked in butter. To me, it looks like a wrap, but smaller and more delicious! The meals here are vegetarian, which is perfect for me, because I don't eat meat.
