The citizens in Russia look at life differently than we do in the United States. This is due to the history of their former government and the radical changes that have often happened in their society. In the past, Russia used to be the leader of the Soviet Union, which was a group of former nations that became a united communist state. In the communist culture, everyone to be equal and have equal things (apartments, cars, clothes).
Even though this government dissolved thirty years ago, you can still see a lot of the ripples today. For instance, my school still has the hammer and sickle symbol (the symbol of communism in the Soviet Union) all over it. Most of the people who live in Moscow now still live in old Soviet apartments that look a lot different than the houses and apartments common in the U.S. They are very uniform in appearance and often made of concrete. I hope you also remember my favorite car in Russia, the Lada! Ladas were the primary car in the Soviet Union, and you can still see lots of them out on the streets today! In terms of clothes, the old clothes of the Soviet Union have long since faded, with the fur hats and greatcoats being relegated to the flea markets and street corner stores.
