There is a place near Red Square where there are different stores that sell food from almost every country from around the world. I of course went to the American store and got a cheeseburger just to see what the Russian version tasted like. It did not have pickles or tomatoes, and it was kind of sweet, but I still enjoyed it. It only cost $8 even though it was right down the street from Russian President Putin's office!
It is funny, almost nobody here speaks Englis, but at all the malls and stores and on the radio, American music is the most popular. Most people do not understand what the songs say, but they still love how they sound. They love it when I sing along to the song because they cannot pronounce a lot of the words, though it tells them right away that I am an American.
Even though I came to Russia to conquer fluency in Russian, and I came to Russia with Americans, I have spent a lot of time with the Italians at the university. One Italian speaks fluent English and the two of us visited Red Square at night, then went and got ice cream at ГУМ (Goom) which is the large mall at Red Square. We had a great time together and I hope to see more of the city in the future with the Italian students!
