Sichuan Terrain

Introduction:

The layout of the Sichuan province is shaped similarly to a basin, with a flat bottom and mountains surrounding it. This unique layout provides many advantages to locals, such as protection from earthquakes, landslides, and foreign invaders, but also disadvantages such as pollution and a lazy lifestyle. The locals have adapted quite well to living in this terrain, with its flat fertile land and its tall majestic mountains. 

What makes this environment special or different?:

The Sichuan province is known for being very flat, with very few hills and ups and downs. In fact, some locals refer to Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, as a large “ping pong table,” which speaks to the terrain as well as to a beloved sport of China. In addition to the flatness, the province is also surrounded by tall mountains which have served as protection from invaders. This unique layout differentiates the Sichuan province from others in China.

What parts of this environment help people to live here?:

The flat terrain offers Sichuan natives many advantages. To begin with, it allows people to travel effortlessly without having to maneuver across steep hills and sudden drops. Furthermore, it in some ways help to protect people during earthquakes.
