Hamjambo? (Hello all!) My name is Petie Schill. I am 24 years old and I am from Boise, Idaho. Boise is such a diverse city, especially because we host a lot of refugees from around the world. Growing up surrounded by different languages and cultures, I was inspired to learn more about the world. After graduating high school, I moved to California, where I majored in Foreign Languages at Scripps College. There, I studied Spanish, Italian, Latin, and Swahili. After college, I moved to Italy for my master’s degree in International Relations– essentially, I studied how countries interact with each other politically, economically, and culturally.
Over the years, I have taught English to refugees, Spanish to elementary school students, and Latin via private lessons. I have also spent two summers working in Italy as a Program Leader for a study abroad program, helping American high school students improve their Italian skills and learn about Italian culture. I am very grateful to be continuing my love for language teaching by serving as a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant in Kenya. I am most excited to learn about Kenyan culture, improve my Swahili skills, and explore the beautiful natural landscapes.
